Constance Range

Constance Range is located 200 kilometres by road from Burketown on the Gulf of Carpentaria and 45 kilometres west of Minmetals’ Century zinc mine.

The project consists of a large exploration tenement (EPM14479) covering 192 square kilometres in which KBL Mining holds a 30% joint venture interest and has the right to increase its interest to 50% through funding the project to completion of a feasibility study.

The Constance Range iron deposits are part of a regional iron formation within the South Nicholson Basin in northwest Queensland. Exploration title is held over a 25 kilometre strike length of the bedded ironstone sequence that is approximately 180 metres thick and contains three main ironstone units of approximately 20 metres thickness each.

BHP first explored the area in the period 1956 to 1963 and delineated 15 iron deposits over a strike length of 100 kilometres. The two largest deposits outlined by the BHP drilling were Deposits A and P. Deposit A is contained wholly within EPM14479, with a significant portion of Deposit P also contained within this tenement.

In 2007, CBH completed a 14 hole drilling programme at Deposit A to validate the previous BHP drilling and infill widely spaced holes. This established an Inferred resource, outside of the National Park but within a 1 kilometre buffer zone from the National Park boundary, of 132 million tonnes at 53.1% Fe, 10.5% SiO2, 0.02% P, 2.1% Al2O3 and 11.1% LOI, and outside this buffer zone of 104 million tonnes at 53.4% Fe, 10.1% SiO2, 0.02% P, 1.0% Al2O3 and 11.2% LOI.

Scoping studies are planned to better define development parameters. This will provide the basis for seeking Queensland Government support for the project, particularly in relation to mining activities within a one kilometre buffer zone adjacent to the National Park boundary. Without government support for mining within the buffer zone, it is unlikely that a development strategy for these resources could be established. If government support is evident, detailed infrastructure plans can be developed. Further investment can then be directed to infill drilling for mine planning.
